Saint Lucia's footballers head to Bridgetown on 2 October 2026 for a CONCACAF Nations League Group B meeting with Guadeloupe, and the bookmakers do not fancy their chances. As reported by Telecom Asia Sport, odds compilers make Guadeloupe the narrow favourite for the neutral-venue fixture, with an away win priced at 2.15, a draw at 3.75 and a Saint Lucia victory at 2.85.
The island sits 25th in the CONCACAF rankings, eleven places below Guadeloupe, who top Group B at 14th. Yet Guadeloupe's tournament start has been anything but smooth, and Saint Lucia arrive with the bigger win behind them.
Saint Lucia have three points from two rounds. Their September home games in Gros Islet began badly, a 2-0 defeat to Barbados in which Thierry Gale converted an eighth-minute penalty and Nile Reid-Stephen added a long-range second on 73 minutes. The response, though, was emphatic: Bermuda were beaten 5-2, with Keegan Cole scoring a first-half hat-trick at the 15th, 18th and 35th minutes.
That win over Bermuda was a rare one. Saint Lucia lost 6-1 to Azerbaijan in March 2026, were beaten 3-0 by Cuba and 3-1 by Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in November 2025, and had not won since beating Barbados 2-1 in June 2025. The recurring problem is defensive. The team have kept no clean sheet in their last ten matches and have conceded at least two goals in five consecutive games.
Guadeloupe have four points from two rounds, level with group leaders Barbados, who edge ahead on goal difference. Bermuda led them through a penalty and had a man sent off, but Allan Vulguer equalised on 84 minutes and Jamali Bouazne struck the winner in the 89th. Against Barbados, Bouazne opened the scoring before two quick goals turned the game, and he rescued a point in stoppage time with a chip over the goalkeeper, his third goal of the tournament.
Head to head, the record is finely balanced. The sides met twice in League B of the Nations League in October 2023: Saint Lucia won 2-1 at home on the 12th, Guadeloupe replied with a 2-0 win on the 15th. Across both games the aggregate score stands at 3-3, with no draw between them.
The betting statistics lean Guadeloupe's way. Saint Lucia have lost the first half in four of their last five matches, and the second half in four of five, with Guadeloupe to win either half priced at 2.63 and 2.44 respectively. Saint Lucia have conceded more than one goal in five straight games, and both before and after half-time in their last five, which underpins the recommended Guadeloupe goals bets at odds from 1.54 to 1.82.
The headline prediction is Guadeloupe to score over 1.5 goals at 1.82, with Guadeloupe to win at 2.15 as the second option and a correct score of 1-2 at 9.00 as the third. The reasoning is straightforward: Guadeloupe are far higher ranked, in form through Bouazne, and know how to win matches late. Saint Lucia can score, as the Bermuda rout showed, and Guadeloupe rarely keep clean sheets, having scored and conceded in each of their last five, but a team conceding at that rate without home advantage looks likely to be beaten narrowly.
Football is the sport you will see played most often in Saint Lucia, on village fields, beach strips and floodlit artificial pitches, and the national side has been a FIFA member since 1988 without yet reaching a World Cup finals. For visitors, the real spectacle is local: hotels can usually point guests to a friendly fixture nearby, and grounds such as the Philip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort have stands and floodlights for community matches.
For anyone combining a match with a trip, the timing matters. The best time to visit St Lucia for cricket is August, when the Caribbean Premier League brings floodlit fixtures to the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Beausejour, Gros Islet, the home of the Saint Lucia Kings. Tickets are sold through the league's ticketing platform, arriving an hour early is advised, and checking the schedule before booking flights to St Lucia is sensible as fixtures change from year to year.
Gros Islet itself is a quiet base close to Rodney Bay and Pigeon Island, with well-known hotels on the nearby headlands, and the island offers a full spread of accommodation beyond it, from all-inclusive resorts in St Lucia to smaller boutique hotels in St Lucia and hillside villas in St Lucia. Match days aside, there is no shortage of things to do in St Lucia between kick-offs, from sailing past the Pitons to snorkelling the reefs off the west coast.
Whether the national team can spring a surprise in Bridgetown remains to be seen, but the pattern of the group suggests goals at both ends. Kick-off on 2 October closes out the October round, and Saint Lucia's next results will shape whether a rare Nations League knockout run is still within reach.
