Getting Married at Sugar Beach, Between the Pitons
Few wedding settings in the Caribbean are as striking as a private crescent of beach between two volcanic spires. Sugar Beach has built a wedding offer around it.
Why couples choose Sugar Beach
Sugar Beach occupies the Val des Pitons, the sheltered valley between Gros Piton and Petit Piton near Soufrière. The resort runs from hillside villas down to a private crescent of dark-gold sand, and the Pitons frame every photograph. Our Sugar Beach resort guide covers the rooms and the grounds in more detail.
For a wedding, the appeal is simple. The setting does the work, the resort is small enough for a ceremony to feel private, and a dedicated planning team looks after the legal paperwork. It suits couples who want a ceremony of two to a few dozen guests rather than a large party.

The wedding packages
Sugar Beach publishes four ceremony options. It does not publish prices online, so you will need to request a quote from the resort. The contents below are as listed on its wedding page, seen in October 2026.
- Love Elevated: the wedding venue, licence and legal fees, a decorated four-pole arch, a tropical bridal bouquet and groom's boutonniere, a two-tier wedding cake, live entertainment, canapés with a premium champagne toast, a poolside cabana for the couple, a private buffet breakfast for guests the day after, three hours of photography, on-site planning and two witnesses if required.
- Romance in Paradise Gold: the venue, an officiant, licence and legal fees, bouquet and boutonniere, a wedding cake, a four-pole arch, live ceremony entertainment, a bottle of premium champagne and on-site planning. A one-category room upgrade at booking is subject to availability.
- Romance in Paradise Platinum: everything in Gold, plus an eight-inch wedding cake, a private dinner for two, a poolside cabana the day after, hair and make-up for the bride, a romantic turndown on the wedding night, VIP airport fast track and transfer and three hours of photography. A complimentary two-night stay on your first anniversary is offered, based on availability.
- Vow renewal: a vow renewal venue with a decorated two-pole arch, an officiant, bouquet and boutonniere, a cake, a bottle of Veuve Pelletier champagne, a romantic amenity and on-site planning.
What independent guests say
Sugar Beach holds a guest score of 9.6 out of 10 from 673 reviews on Expedia, which only accepts reviews from guests who have booked and stayed. Only Ladera scores higher in our wedding shortlist. Treat it as a measure of the stay as a whole rather than the wedding service alone, because the scores are not split by occasion.
Beach weddings at Sugar Beach also appear in several independent wedding films made by couples and videographers, including the one at the top of this page.
Planning notes
Sugar Beach is a long way from the north of the island, so allow time for the journey from the airport. Our getting around guide explains the drive times, and getting here covers the airports. The shoulder months either side of the dry season often give the best balance of price and weather, as our best time to visit guide explains.
Check the legal steps in our marriage requirements guide. Sugar Beach arranges the licence and the registrar, but you must still bring the right documents. Prices change with the season and the exchange rate, so ask the resort or your travel agent to confirm the current figure in writing before you pay a deposit.
Is Sugar Beach worth it for a honeymoon in Saint Lucia?
Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort, is worth it for a honeymoon in Saint Lucia if you want a quiet, private beach in the Val des Pitons near Soufrière, and less so if you want nightlife, a lively pool scene or a short airport transfer. The resort occupies the former Jalousie Plantation, and the old plantation house still serves as its social heart, with bars and restaurants gathered around it. The whitewashed villas climb the slope behind, the beachfront bungalows sit close to the water, and the two Pitons stand over everything, which gives even a lazy afternoon a sense of occasion. Couples who have seen the valley in photographs are often surprised by how much larger and greener it feels in person.
What couples tend to value is the scale. This is a small, calm resort rather than a large complex, so the beach rarely feels crowded and the grounds invite slow walks between the villas, the plantation house and the sand. Watersports are part of the offer for those who like to be active, while the spa is set among thatched, treehouse-style gazebos reached by raised wooden walkways, which makes a treatment feel like part of the landscape rather than a visit to a clinic. A few private residences offer the greatest seclusion for those who want a house to themselves for the week. Ask the resort which villa and bungalow positions sit closest to the beach and the plantation house, because the choice shapes how much walking each day involves.
The trade-off is distance. Sugar Beach lies a long drive from the airports on a winding road, and the evenings are quiet, so couples who like bars and music on the doorstep may prefer the north of the island. If seclusion, scenery and luxury resorts in Saint Lucia are what you want from a honeymoon, the Val des Pitons is hard to beat, and the sense of arriving somewhere remote is part of the pleasure. Our honeymoon inspiration guide helps you decide how much quiet is too much, and how to balance rest with a few memorable outings. Speak to your agent about the best weeks for the weather you want, and about what each room category includes before you pay a deposit.
What is there to do near Sugar Beach in the days after the wedding?
Near Sugar Beach in Saint Lucia you can climb Gros Piton with a guide, soak in the warm pools at Sulphur Springs, snorkel or dive along the protected coast and book spa treatments, all within a short drive of the Val des Pitons. A sensible rhythm is one active morning followed by two slow days, since the heat and the climbing both reward an early start. Our Pitons guide explains the climb, which is steep and demanding but short enough to finish before lunch, and which gives a view over the coast that most visitors count among the best of their trip. Wear proper shoes and carry water. Set off before the day warms up, and tell the resort which morning you plan to go so that a guide and transport can be arranged.
For a gentler outing, the volcanic area near Sulphur Springs is a popular half day, with the smell, the steam and the warm water forming one of the most distinctive experiences on the island. Pair it with a late lunch in Soufrière, the old town on the bay, where you can see the harbour, the fishing boats and the Pitons from the waterfront. Couples who like to eat well will find that the resort kitchens and the town make a good contrast, and a slow wander through the streets is enough to give a sense of everyday life here. Bring a little cash for small purchases and drinks, and allow time for a slow coffee, since the pace of the town rewards visitors who are not in a hurry.
The water offers a different pace again. The coast beneath the Pitons is a protected marine area, and our guide to diving and snorkelling in Saint Lucia explains what you can see, from reef fish to sponges, even if you have never tried it before. Finish with a treatment inspired by the island's volcanic setting, and read about spa rituals and mud baths to choose something that suits you. Booking activities a few days ahead in the busy season keeps your plans comfortable and avoids disappointment on the days you most want to go. A flexible approach also helps, because weather can change plans, and the resort team will usually suggest an alternative if a trip has to move.
Who should book a Sugar Beach wedding, and when?
A Sugar Beach wedding in Saint Lucia suits couples and small groups who value setting and privacy over entertainment, and the drier months from December to April generally give the most settled weather for holidays in Saint Lucia. It is a good fit if your idea of a perfect day is a short ceremony on the sand, a long lunch in the shade and a quiet evening, and a poorer fit for a large, boisterous party. Be honest about your guest list before you choose a date, because the resort rewards intimacy and can feel crowded if a big group arrives all at once. Smaller wedding parties tend to enjoy the place most, as the beach, the terraces and the dining areas then feel generous rather than busy.
Think carefully about getting there. The journey from the airports is long, so build a night of rest into your plans and tell guests early that the road is winding and takes time. Our getting here guide explains the airports and the transfers, and a pre-booked car is far less stressful than arranging one on arrival. If you would like a rest before the ceremony, arrive a few days ahead, and ask the resort which weeks are quietest so that the beach feels like yours. Older relatives will appreciate a clear plan for the journey. Share the transfer details with every guest in advance, including who is meeting them, and suggest they carry a drink and a snack for the winding road.
It is also worth comparing nearby options before you commit. The neighbouring estate of Jade Mountain offers a very different style, with open-sided sanctuaries rather than a beach crescent, and seeing both helps you judge whether you want sand under your feet or a terrace in the air. Whichever you choose, ask for the full list of inclusions in writing and confirm the legal timetable well before you travel. A calm, well-documented plan is the best foundation for a day that is meant to be about nothing but the two of you. Keep a folder of emails and quotes, and review it together a month before you travel, so that nothing is left to chance on the days that matter.
Sugar Beach between the Pitons
A beach ceremony beneath the Pitons is easier to appreciate with some background. Geology and volcanoes explains how the peaks formed, and marine life and coral reefs describes the bay below.
The estate's setting also ties into the island's farming history, told in agriculture and bananas and slavery and emancipation.

Questions travellers ask
Does Sugar Beach publish wedding prices?
No. The resort lists its four packages and their contents online but asks couples to request a quote, so prices are agreed directly with the wedding team.
Can we hold a vow renewal at Sugar Beach?
Yes. The resort offers a dedicated vow renewal package with a decorated arch, an officiant, a cake, champagne and planning support.
Is the legal paperwork included?
The licence and legal fees are listed in the Love Elevated, Gold and Platinum packages, and the resort's team handles the application with you.
How good are the independent reviews?
Sugar Beach scores 9.6 out of 10 from 673 verified guest reviews on Expedia, one of the strongest scores of any resort on the island.
How far is Sugar Beach from the airport in Saint Lucia?
Sugar Beach is a long drive from both airports along a winding road, so plan on a transfer of well over an hour and arrange it in advance. Arriving a day early helps.
What is the best time of year for a wedding at Sugar Beach?
December to April is generally the driest and most settled period, so it suits a beach ceremony best. Shoulder months can offer better value, with a little more chance of showers.
Is Sugar Beach suitable for a wedding with children?
It can be, but the resort is calm and quiet, so check its family policy and room types first. Couples without children are the natural fit for the Val des Pitons.
What wedding packages does Sugar Beach offer?
Sugar Beach lists four options: Love Elevated, Romance in Paradise Gold, Romance in Paradise Platinum and a vow renewal package. Contents differ, and prices are by quote from the wedding team. Compare costs elsewhere on our fixed price packages page.
How many guests can Sugar Beach host for a wedding?
The resort is small enough for a ceremony to feel private, and it suits a party of two up to a few dozen guests rather than a large celebration. Ask the team about exact numbers. For larger groups, compare Anse Chastanet, which can host more.
Does a Sugar Beach wedding include photography?
Some packages do. Love Elevated and Romance in Paradise Platinum list three hours of photography, while the others do not list it. Confirm inclusions in writing. To see how another resort prices photographers, read our Ladera wedding page.
