The island's strongest under-19 schools netball sides underlined their credentials on Monday 12 October 2026 as the Under-19 Schools Netball Competition continued at the Beausejour Indoor Facility, where Saint Lucia Sports Academy, St Joseph's Convent and Castries Comprehensive Secondary School all recorded emphatic Group A victories.

As reported by The Voice St. Lucia News, the day opened with Saint Lucia Sports Academy overwhelming Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School 24-7. Goal attack Isabella Emilien was the driving force, finding the target on 17 of her 25 attempts, and goal shoot Cathyann Lucien backed her up by missing only two of her nine shots.

Sir Ira Simmons kept working to the end. Jazan Willie landed three of her five scoring chances and Valencia Joseph four of her eight, but the deficit proved far too large to close. The result left the Sports Academy in a strong position as the group stage progresses.

St Joseph's Convent delivered the heaviest Group A scoreline, running out 43-8 winners over Babonneau Secondary School to extend a run of form that has quickly marked them out as one of the teams to beat. Goal shoot Iyana Williams was in ruthless mood once again, converting 31 of 37 attempts, while goal attack Xanaiia Emmanus chipped in with 12 goals from 17 chances. Babonneau's Amia Jn Marie and Samara Edward each managed four goals from six attempts in reply.

The third Group A fixture followed a similar pattern, with Castries Comprehensive Secondary School beating Entrepot Secondary School 28-4. Wonder Antoine led the way for CCSS with 21 goals from 34 attempts and Kiana Delice added seven, while for Entrepot, goal shoot Azaria Leon accounted for three of her side's four goals from six attempts, with Jenni Charlery supplying the other.

With three rounds of Group A matches now played at Beausejour, the competition is beginning to take shape around those three schools, all of whom have strengthened their positions with Monday's results.

There was also a full card of Group B fixtures the same day at the Micoud Multi-Purpose Complex, where the more settled teams made their experience count. Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School began with a 43-19 defeat of Beanfield Comprehensive Secondary School, built on 23 goals from 33 attempts by goal attack Harriel William and 20 from 31 by goal shoot Kheryss Ferguson. Jerannie Marquis scored 17 of Beanfield's 19 from 27 attempts, with Yohanna Magloire adding two from eight.

The standout performance of the day came in game two, where Sir Arthur Lewis Community College thrashed Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School 53-6. Niaja Ferdinand converted 24 of 27 attempts in the SALCC attack, Neanna Francois added 22 from 31 and Cleah Cazaubon seven from 12. Onyeka Enebeli and Destiny Edward each scored three goals for Leon Hess.

Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School closed the programme by beating Choiseul Secondary School 30-18, completing a winning day for the division's established contenders. Deriscia Mitchell led the Vieux Fort scoring with 24 goals from 38 attempts, supported by five from Bernege Joseph and one from Rashante Theodore. Choiseul's Malia Isidore landed 15 of her 20 attempts and Adana Maximin three from 10.

Shem Maxwell, the Physical Education Specialist in the Department of Youth Development and Sports who oversees Group B at Micoud, described Monday's fixtures as uneven affairs in which experience told. He said the day had been a relatively slow one because the more established teams were up against opponents with far less time on court, and that the games were largely dominated by those seasoned sides.

Netball sits at the heart of school sport on the island and has a proper home at the Beausejour Indoor Facility, a venue built for the 2007 Cricket World Cup that now stages basketball, volleyball and netball with seating for around 600 spectators. The tournament runs alongside a wider sporting calendar that includes cricket at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium near Gros Islet and village football across the island, and for anyone following sport in Saint Lucia the schools competitions are a good window into the island's next generation of athletes.

The competition continues in both groups, with Group A returning to Beausejour and Group B to Micoud as the established teams look to consolidate and the chasing pack battle for the remaining places. For visitors booking holidays to St Lucia around the island's sporting calendar, a morning at an indoor fixture is an easy addition to a trip, and the facility sits within easy reach of the hotels in St Lucia's north, from family-friendly all-inclusive resorts in St Lucia to quieter boutique hotels in St Lucia tucked into the Cap Estate hills. Fans flying in for the later rounds will find flights to St Lucia arriving daily at Hewanorra, and with the tournament running through the dry season, October through the new year is among the best time to visit St Lucia for sport. Beyond the courts, visitors can fill the rest of a stay with things to do in St Lucia, from hiking in St Lucia's rainforest trails to days on the beaches in St Lucia between Gros Islet and Soufriere, where the Pitons rise steeply from the sea at the island's southern end.
