American citizens in Saint Lucia will get a rare chance to sort their passport paperwork without leaving the island next month. A consular officer from the US Embassy, which covers the eastern Caribbean from Barbados, will hold limited appointments in Rodney Bay on Wednesday 11 November 2026, taking applications for US passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad. As reported by bb.usembassy.gov, the day runs from 9am to 4pm.

The venue is the Lantana Conference Room at the Bay Gardens Hotel, a short walk from the shops and restaurants of Rodney Bay, one of the liveliest corners of the island's north. But anyone hoping to turn up on the day will be turned away: every applicant must book a slot in advance through the embassy's website, and the embassy says it cannot help walk-ins or anyone accompanying an applicant.

There is another change to note. All fees must be paid online before the appointment through the US government's payment portal; the embassy will not accept bank drafts, cash, credit cards or any same-day payment, and issues no refunds or change. A printed copy of the payment confirmation email must be brought along.

The fees are US$135 for a child's passport under 16, US$165 for a first adult passport, US$100 for a Consular Report of Birth Abroad and US$50 per signature for notarial work. One shortcut remains: anyone renewing a 10-year passport issued within the past 15 years, who still holds the expired book, can apply by mail directly to the embassy for US$130 instead of attending.

Applicants should arrive with a completed application form printed out, two 2-inch by 2-inch passport photos taken without eyeglasses, original proof of US citizenship such as an old passport, birth certificate or naturalisation certificate, a social security card, and a prepaid FedEx or DHL air waybill so the new passport can be mailed back. Photocopies of everything, including the passport being renewed, are required as well.

The rules tighten for children under 16. Both parents must appear in person with the child if both are named on the birth certificate, or the non-applying parent must supply a signed, notarised consent form. Parents also need their own identification and photographs showing the child's development since the last passport was issued. Visa questions are explicitly off the agenda; the officer cannot discuss them.

For the several thousand Americans who live on or visit the island, the outreach day spares a trip to Barbados, a ferry and flight away. It also reflects how many foreigners have put down roots here, whether running businesses, retiring or booking repeat holidays to St Lucia year after year.

The setting is telling. Rodney Bay and the wider Gros Islet area are where most of the island's visitors base themselves, with a full spread of hotels in St Lucia clustered around the bay, Reduit Beach and the marina at Pigeon Island. The Bay Gardens itself sits on the main strip, next to the Indies Nightclub, so the appointments are happening in the middle of the island's busiest tourist quarter.

It is the north coast that draws the all-inclusive market too, and all-inclusive resorts in St Lucia concentrate their family and couples business along this stretch, where the beach is calmest and the nightlife closest. Visitors staying in the area on 11 November will find the conference room doing a brisk trade in US passport forms.

Anyone in town for the appointments can fill the rest of the day easily. The standard list of things to do in St Lucia starts at Pigeon Island national park, a five-minute drive north, and continues with boat trips, snorkelling and the Friday night street party at Gros Islet. Reduit Beach, the best known of the beaches in St Lucia, is effectively next door.

Timing matters for applicants: this is a single day, and slots are limited. The visit falls at the start of the island's drier season, which is broadly the best time to visit St Lucia, so the embassy's outreach coincides with the months when the island hosts its heaviest visitor numbers. Direct flights to St Lucia from London land at Hewanorra in the south, about 90 minutes from Rodney Bay by road.

Appointments can be booked through the embassy's consular outreach page, and full form guidance is on the State Department's travel site. Anyone who misses the day will need to wait for a future visit or deal with Barbados directly; the embassy has not announced when the officer will return to the island.
