Windjammer Landing in St Lucia appoints Almando Rigby as general manager

Windjammer Landing Resort and Residences has named Almando Rigby, a Caribbean luxury resort veteran with more than 20 years of experience, as its new general manager, following a $40 million renovation.

Windjammer Landing Resort and Residences on Saint Lucia has a new man at the top, with Almando Rigby appointed general manager of the hillside resort on the island's north west coast. The announcement comes at a pivotal moment for the property, which has just completed a $40 million renovation and recently added a luxury estate in the south of the island.

As reported by Travel Weekly, Rigby arrives with more than two decades of leadership experience at ultra-luxury Caribbean resorts. His most recent post was as executive assistant manager at Rock House, a property within the Grace Bay Resorts portfolio on Turks and Caicos, where he led a team of more than 145 staff across six divisions covering rooms, food and beverage, spa, engineering, finance, and sales and marketing.

Before that role, Rigby was director of rooms for Grace Bay Resorts, with responsibility for keeping the operation up to Forbes service standards. Hotel officials say he will now take charge of every aspect of day-to-day operations at Windjammer Landing, with a brief centred on improving performance, growing revenue and lifting the experience guests receive on the ground.

The appointment is being described internally as the start of a new chapter for the resort, and the timing matters. Windjammer Landing has just emerged from a major renovation that transformed its arrival area, rooms, villas, restaurants and pools, so the incoming general manager inherits a refreshed product rather than a renovation project.

For anyone who has not been for a few years, the resort may look quite different from older photographs. Windjammer Landing, which some listings still call by its former name of Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort, trades under the name Windjammer Landing Resort and Residences and remains open and taking bookings. The renovation work is finished, so the property is operating at full stretch.

The resort occupies a hillside setting above Labrelotte Bay on Saint Lucia's north west coast, close to Rodney Bay. Rooms, suites, pool villas and private residences step down the slope towards a crescent of sand, and guests can book room only, all-inclusive or a premium all-inclusive package. That spread of accommodation makes it one of the more flexible options among hotels in St Lucia, working equally well for families, couples and groups who want space to spread out.

The villa layout is also central to its appeal for larger parties. The mix of villas and residences, many with kitchens and generous living areas, has long made the resort practical for wedding groups as well as families, and it features regularly on the Saint Lucia Tourist Board's wedding listing. For couples weighing up weddings in St Lucia, that combination of space and a beachfront setting is a significant part of the pitch, and the new general manager will be expected to build on it.

Rigby's remit also extends beyond the main resort. Windjammer Landing recently broadened its luxury offer with the addition of La Belle Helene, a ten-bedroom estate in Saint Lucia's Unesco-protected Soufriere region, giving the resort a presence in the dramatic south west of the island as well as its traditional north west base. That puts high-end villa accommodation near the Pitons, an area that draws visitors searching for luxury hotels in St Lucia and scenic surroundings to match.

The change of leadership will matter most to guests already booked or considering a stay. The resort's operators have signalled that the guest experience is a core focus of Rigby's tenure, which suggests attention on service consistency across the renovated rooms, restaurants and pool areas. Travellers comparing all-inclusive resorts in St Lucia will find the premium all-inclusive package at Windjammer Landing sits alongside room only and standard all-inclusive options, giving a range of ways to structure a stay depending on budget and how much time guests plan to spend off-property.

The resort's position also makes it a practical base for exploring the island. Rodney Bay and its shops and restaurants are close by, while the island's north west beaches are within easy reach for guests who want variety beyond the resort's own bay. Those building wider holidays to St Lucia around a stay here can pair the resort with excursions inland or south, and our guides cover the best time to visit St Lucia, flights to St Lucia and itineraries that work well around a north west coast base.

For the travel trade, the appointment signals continuity with ambition. Rigby's background is in ultraluxury Caribbean operations and Forbes-level service standards, and his stated priorities of performance, revenue and guest experience align with what a newly renovated resort needs as it repositions itself. His track record at Rock House and Grace Bay Resorts on Turks and Caicos suggests an operator used to running sizeable teams across multiple departments.

Windjammer Landing has not announced any immediate operational changes under its new general manager, and the resort continues to trade and take bookings as normal. Guests with existing reservations can expect business as usual, with the new leadership's influence likely to show first in service standards and day-to-day operations rather than in any change to the resort's name, ownership or structure.
